Min. Walkway or platform width
Min. Walkway or platform width
(OP)
Hi
May I ask if anyone knows of any code statement or something from somehere that they give the limits for the width of an elevated walkway (outside of the building) parallel to building?
Location: United States.
Type of structure: Steel structure in an Industrial Facility/Plant
Don't know to use 2'-6" , 3'-00" or 4'-00"?
I appreciate if anyone that has designed platforms and walkways let me know where to get the min. width for an elevated platform/walkway?
Purporse: We have cut an openning in higher level of exterior of a building, the walkway is along building (metal siding).
Thank you

NFPA 101 table 40.2.5.2.1 - Industrial equipment access dimensional criteria
Minimum horizontal dimension of any walkway, landing, or platform - 22" clear

IBC 2012 has the code moved into another section, but I believe the general requirement hasn't changed.
