Performing fitness for service calculations on a 1950 vintage vessel. I need Max allowable stress as well as yield . Vessel operates at 250 degrees. In the day MDMT was not thought of so what would be the most like material today to calculate a MDMT too.

RE: ASME SA-212-Grade B FBX quality

You will need impact data for such a task. SA 212 was a coarse grained steel, which could now be compared to coarse-grained SA 517 steel.

You might want to take some time and review the information below for background information;

RE: ASME SA-212-Grade B FBX quality

The SA 212 was replaced by SA 515-70 plate material(coarse grained practice) specification in 1966.

I was able to access my archive file and found the following information

SA 212 B

UTS 70-85 Ksi
min YS 38 Ksi

In one of the reputable data resources, the minimum design metal temperature for this material can be as high as 120 deg F. This is the reason this material was used in Section I boilers where operating temperatures were well above ambient to ensure adequate notch toughness behavior.
