pattern feature - attempting to model an SEM photo of a polymer

(OP)
I am attempting to create a model of a SEM photograph... I have a pattern of splines that I have created (3rd degree), then extruded and subtracted from a block. I need to replicate this pattern 80x in the X direction, 30x in the Y direction and 60x in the z direction. (See attached jpg to see the pattern).

This works for a very small number of these, before the file size starts to become unwieldy - for example, 7 of them make my file close to 20MB.

I am using NX9
Any creative ideas on how I might accomplish this and have a file that i can work in?

Thanks.
