dears,

according to ASCE, AISC or UBC what is maximum steel structure span without expansion joint ,

in other word what is the maximum steel structure span can be designed without take effect of temperature variation loads .,

RE: maximum steel structure span without expansion joint

It depends on the configuration of your building, the anticipated temperature range, etc. Unfortunately there isn't all that much information out there: Link. Based on the ubiquitous tech report #65 graph, 200 ft seems to be the catchall maximum. I don't know of any specific limitations in the codes.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
