WELDING PIPES WITH DIFFERENT STRENGTH

WELDING PIPES WITH DIFFERENT STRENGTH

WELDING PIPES WITH DIFFERENT STRENGTH

(OP)
THERE IS PIPELINE OF MATERIAL API 5L GR B AND WE WANT TO CHANGE SOME OF PIPES BUT WE HAVE PIPES API 5L X52 ONLY, CAN WE USE IT? WHAT ABOUT WELDING OF PIPES WITH DIFFERENT STRENGTH ?

RE: WELDING PIPES WITH DIFFERENT STRENGTH

So long at they are the same thickness at the weld end, this is not an issue. you will probably need a specific weld procedure and weld qualification tests as this could be an essential variable, but talk to welding engineer to see if your current welding procedures are valid or not. If not it's not a big cost to get ones that are.
