Custom Flange Design

Custom Flange Design

(OP)
Hi Guys,

I need some info in regards to performing custom flange design calculations on a storage tank.

I use PVElite software to perform the flange design calculations and always have used the bolting material like A193-B8 or A193-B8M class 1 or class 2 bolting which are listed materials in ASME SEC VIII and AS 1210 code.

Now my question is can we use the structural bolting like A2-70 or A4-70 to perform the flange design calculations even if these bolting material or type isn't listed in any of the codes above.

I really appreciate the help...

Thanks,
Chandanraj

RE: Custom Flange Design

Chandanraj123, looking at the PVE help file, it appears you can add a custom material, i.e. your bolting, presuming you have allowable stress info.

So, yes you can perform the calculations but the resulting design will not be Code compliant due to non-listed material.

Regards,

Mike
