Buckling of thin silo during transportation.
Buckling of thin silo during transportation.
(OP)
In one of my project we are sending silo in horizontal condition. the thickness of silo is 6mm. ,dia. is 7mtr. and 16 mtr. length. The top portion is connected with roof and bottom portion is connected with cone. I am providing 4 saddles, 2 near top and bottom part and remaining 2 in center at equal distance.
I have doubt about shell buckling due to thin thickness.
Is there any way I can check shell buckling during transportation due to thin thickness and bigger dia.?
Please advice.

RE: Buckling of thin silo during transportation.
If seismic and wind loads are not an issue I don't know that transport should be.
But how are you going to lay it down and stand it back up without bucking?
That looks to be a greater issue.

It is common to have temporary braces inside for shipping if needed to hold it round.

Could you roll a long shell that would be 1/4 of the circumference? If re-used, the total cost would be spread across several silo's.
