Pre Precast Floor Planks

Pre Precast Floor Planks

I have a building built in 1966.  The floor slabs are concrete 16" thick with 12" diameter tubes cast in (like todays hollow core planks).  My question is what do you think these 12" diameter tubes are made of?  Did they have PVC back then?  Steel or iron tubes seem like a lot of dead load.

RE: Pre Precast Floor Planks

pylko,

We ran into a situation similar to this a few years back and the tubes used there were transite pipe sections.  I wonder if those you encountered might be transite also?

Beware of transite... It's asbestos!

Wasn't transite used for water pipes years ago?
