Wind load on cottage walls
Wind load on cottage walls
(OP)
User's Guide to the National Building Code of Canada specifies that for low rise buildings, for primary structural actions arising from wind, that the dimension "y" for the width of wall at the corner where there is a higher wind pressure/suction (end zone) shall be not less than 6 m (20 feet), but need not exceed the distance between the end and the first interior frame. For a 26'x26' cottage, the end zone width would then be 20 feet, or most of the cottage width. This does not seem reasonable.
It seems to me that they did not have houses and other small buildings in mind when they formulated these requirements for end zone width.
Does anyone know of any Code that specifically covers end zone width for houses and the like, or is there any justification for reducing the end zone width for houses and the like??
