NX Viewer Printing

NX Viewer Printing

NX Viewer Printing

(OP)
Looking for some help setting up printing with NX10 Viewer. The viewer does not have a plot command, only print. I am struggling to find a way to print 1:1 scale, properly centered on the sheet. Once I find a setup that works (tricking the printer with an oversized page size), I try a different printer and I have to start over. The viewer needs to work with a variety of printers and plotters depending on where in the building various users are working. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

RE: NX Viewer Printing

hm, can you export pdf with that viewer ?
Are you trying to print models or drawings ?

We are printing drawings. Our factory is still very dependant on scaled paper drawings, and we want our non-CAD users to be able to print directly from the NX drawing without having to come to engineering. We are trying to avoid the process of exporting files. It's difficult enough to manage the CAD files without Teamcenter, let alone another set of PDF's or CGM's that are uncontrolled.

RE: NX Viewer Printing

The problem you have is that the File -> Print is using a screenshot to send to a printer.
The plotting function in full blown NX works differently in that it creates a CGM first then sends that to the printer/plotter.

I think you either have to consider a base drafting or design bundle to get access to plot functionality or speak with your Siemens rep about finding a solution that will work for you.
I don't think that's an unreasonable request to be able to print plots at 1:1 from NX Viewer.

RE: NX Viewer Printing

As Anthony explained, the NX "print" is a screendump. (- why i proposed pdf.)
I had a look, the NX Viewer doesn't have neither the pdf nor the Plot...
If your salesrep has promised you this option in the Viewer, -it's time to start negotiating...

Tomas

Anthony / Tomas - Thanks for the input. You are actually backing up my current suspicions about the viewer. When I started this process I didn't think that a free viewer was an unreasonable request either, I have since been educated.... We have already gone the route of asking our sales rep and some technical people. They do freely admit that exactly what you are saying here, that it is just a screen dump. There doesn't seem to be much intent to make it more than that. It may come down to just making sure that everyone here understands that unless it is plotted by someone with a full NX license, or if it was printed on the one designated plotter that I can trick into correct sizing, it won't be 1:1. Currently no one outside of engineering can even see our files, so I guess it's progress not perfection.
