equipement design in HYSYS ?

equipement design in HYSYS ?

equipement design in HYSYS ?

(OP)
Hello guys,
I would like to design or verify the performances of equipements like heat exchangers, adsorption and distillation towers ? I wonder if I can do that with hysys ? if yes, I will appreciate if you can provide me with some insight ! thanks in advance.

RE: equipement design in HYSYS ?

for that I prefer a different solution based on Excel (or Mathcad)
and PRODE PROPERTIES which does all process calc's ,
this solution (Excel + simulator) offers several advantages,
you may follow a similar way...

WELL, THANK YOU APETRI
do you have some examples of equipement sizing or rating done with hysys or just with excel ? I want to learn how to do that ?
I thought hysys would be a better choice because of its incorporated properties library, isnt it

RE: equipement design in HYSYS ?

I would use this for early stage cost estimation only (no matter what software) where time may lmit your options for checking actual prices. Its (usually) not rocket science anyway.

I wouldnt want to invest in a new simulator just for this and would rely on HYSYS if i get this piece already.

Best regards, Morten (not an employee of Aspen or other software vendors)

RE: equipement design in HYSYS ?

as said I have Prode Properties which, for Excel applications,
offers advantages as a very low cost and a immediate interface
over other tools,
however you can easily link Excel with Aspen or other software if you have access to one of these...

Excel includes a programming language, VBA, with VBA users can automate tasks in Excel solving simple and even complex problems, you may find several examples of VBA applications in eng-tips forum or cheresourses forum,
for a simple VBA application with Prode see

http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=329093

in the same way you can find examples for a different software...

RE: equipement design in HYSYS ?

As i said i would not buy (and learn) new software for this considering that i would only rely on these features during early stages of project definition.

But im on the client side and engineering companies who does this more frequently may see things differently.

RE: equipement design in HYSYS ?

of course, that depends from the kind of problems you have to solve,
in many cases you may not need a complex simulator
and, as discussed in my previous posts, there are competitive alternatives,
but of course everyone has to decide which is the best solution...

I have really enjoyed the debate guys , But that still doesn't fully answer to my question ? Do you have some detailed examples with hysys on equipement sizing or rating with hysys (shell & tube, vessels and columns), I wd really appreciate it gentelmen !

RE: equipement design in HYSYS ?

then you may find some answers in linkedin where exactly the same question was posted recently
https://www.linkedin.com/grp/post/961347-601184610...

for the obvious reasons discussed in my previous posts I think that if one decides to spend all that money for a license sure he can contact aspen assistance for help (as suggested by several others in that linkedin's thread),
differently, better to consider alternatives smile
