ASCE 7-05 Minimum Wind Load

ASCE 7-05 Minimum Wind Load

ASCE 7-05 Minimum Wind Load

(OP)
For ASCE 7-05 - Method 2 Heights less than 60' what is the minimum wind pressure.

I was under the assumption that it would be 10psf, however I cannot find this provision in this section. It appears the only reference to a minimum is that you would neglect any net negative wind pressures. Does this sound correct or am I missing something?

In ASCE 7-10 they have a minimum 10psf on walls and 5psf on roofs (again I don't see this in -05 version).

Thanks!!

RE: ASCE 7-05 Minimum Wind Load

The minimum wind pressure requirements are in Sections 6.1.4.1 and 6.1.4.2. These are valid regardless of which Method is being used for the main wind analysis. The 2005 values are 10 psf across the board, no reduction for the horizontal projection of the roof as indicated in ASCE7-10

Note the ASCE7-10 minimum wind values are now 16 psf and 8 psf, not 10 and 5.

RE: ASCE 7-05 Minimum Wind Load

Yes, but if you convert the 16 and 8 psf to ASD you are basically back to 10 and 5 psf.

@ajh1 -> Thanks, I completely missed the opening section.

Yes, I was converting the wind pressures from ASCE 7-10.
