Video Game Console Controlers

I know this is a *long* shot, but would anyone happen to know the signal codes that NES, SNES, PlayStation, or any other controlers send? Failling that, any idea on how to detect them?

I'm trying to build a female port to attatch to the serial or paralel port of a PC, and then write a driver that will convert this into key strokes or mouse button clicks. The idea is, you could plug a console controler directly into your computer and play games ( such as Grand Theft Auto III ) with the simplicity of the console interface, and with the power of the PC.

Any help would be great. Thanks.
