HydroTest Clarification

HydroTest Clarification

HydroTest Clarification

(OP)
Hi All,

I'm performing a hydro test on a ANSI Class 150# control valve at 435 PSI according to the Manufacturer's procedure and each time I need to pressure up above 435 PSI(approx 440 PSI) in order for the test to stabilize and allow the valve to pass the test without falling below the recommended test pressure. With reference to API 598,are there any limitations outline for testing above 1.5 X MAWP?In other words how much can I pressure up taking into consideration stabilization time without causing damage to the integrity of the control valve body?

Appreciate the feedback...

Thanks
Instnapp05

RE: HydroTest Clarification

Hello Instnapp05, the question itself indicates that you have some problems when testing. If you need to pressurize higher than your written procedure normally describes (Note! according to the test regulations you have to have a written procedure to produce a valid test!) something is wrong, probably something is leaking. It could be the valve or test leaking equipment.

If this presumption is correct, the problem should be fixed, or the valve repaired in stead of altering the procedure. This is not allowed.

For specific questions regarding procedures (API) it would be a great help to get better answers to know exactly test type (several are described), valve type, test fluid, procedure section reference and issue date of the test.

From which table comes the 435psi related to 150 class?

Good luck!
