Bookmarks for geometric objects at the part level?

Bookmarks for geometric objects at the part level?

Bookmarks for geometric objects at the part level?

(OP)
Hi,

In NX, bookmarks will save the component status in the context of an assembly, but is there a bookmarks feature to save the visibility (blank status) of geometric objects on the part level?
The reason is, sometimes I'm working on a complex part with lots of objects. In this part, perhaps 50 objects are shown, and 50 objects are hidden. Now, I want to pay attention to a single object, a sheet body, and don't want to have any other objects cluttering the view. Is there a way to only show this sheet body, hide the other 49 objects, then when I'm done, show those 49 objects again?

Of course, I could simply select all objects in the view except the sheet body and hide them, but the problem is sifting through a hidden collection of 99 objects and showing 49 of them.

This sounds like a good time to use a "group". Add all the objects currently displayed onscreen to a new group, hide everything but the sheet body you are interested in, then "show" the group when you are done working on the sheet body. Groups that you create will show up in the "Groups" node in the part navigator making it easy to access them later. You can quickly toggle the show/hide status of the entire group by single clicking on the check box.

I knew groups were useful for organizing imported 2D geometry, but never thought about using it in this manner, and it works great!
Thank you!

RE: Bookmarks for geometric objects at the part level?

Hi

Another option would be to select the sheet body you want to work on and blank it (Ctrl+B).
Then Invert the blank (Ctrl+Shift+B).

The only negative I can think of is that when you undo the blank (Ctrl+Shift+U), everything would be shown again, not only the 50 items you had active.

Well, I never use Show All (ctrl+shift+u), but the problem with your suggestion is, as I said in the opening post, that I already have 50 objects that are blanked, so if I blank the object and Invert shown and hidden, there would still be 50 objects cluttering the view. But yes, it would work in certain cases.

Might be a little more than you wish to deal with, but layering objects might be another option to consider. Solids on a specific layer, construction geometry on another, sheets on another, etc. Categories function much like Groups, but only with layers.
