Retrieve the component translations delta X,Y,Z values from the Component Properties Information

Retrieve the component translations delta X,Y,Z values from the Component Properties Information

Retrieve the component translations delta X,Y,Z values from the Component Properties Information

(OP)
Hi Everyone, does anyone know if it is possible to retrieve the component translations delta X,Y,Z values from the Component Properties Information window?

I want to be able to reference the Z value to grow or shrink my component depending if the component is moved up or down.

I think it would be something very similar as to this thread: http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=344785

I don't understanding the coding some people have posted and I don't understand yet how to apply it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: Retrieve the component translations delta X,Y,Z values from the Component Properties Information

As you know, you can see how much the component has been moved to get it into its current position by using "information -> object" on the component. However, I don't know of any way to use these values in interactive NX. In your case, you might find an associative measurement to be more useful. I'd suggest creating an associative measurement between your component and a known item in your assembly (a fixed datum plane, perhaps). The associative measurement feature will create an expression with the distance value. You can reference this expression to drive other geometry or constraints.

Hi Cowski, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I would prefer not to add another assembly layer to this assembly in order to get it to work. I appreciate the idea. If by chance you do come across a way to use the "information -> object " please let me know.

Thanks,

PKoc.

Add the associative measurement in the existing assembly, then add an interpart expression to drive the value into the component part file, make use of the expression value to change geometry as needed. I don't see why this would require "another assembly layer".
