Capacity of ASME caps

Capacity of ASME caps

Capacity of ASME caps

(OP)
Hi, I'm just trying to find the capacity of an ASME cap (e.g. B16.9) without using any software...how can I do that? I know it's a stupid question, but I haven't found anything on web. Thanks

RE: Capacity of ASME caps

Code of construction?

RE: Capacity of ASME caps

ASME VIII Div.1

RE: Capacity of ASME caps

Look at section 2.1 of ASME B 16.9 where it states that the allowable pressure ratings for fitting in accordance with the code may be calculated the same as for straight seamless pipe of the same material, grade and wall thickness as determined by one of the codes in the ASME B 31 series (probably 31.3?)

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

RE: Capacity of ASME caps

UG-44

The point is only a geometric question: what is the internal volume of the cap? In other words, how much water/gas/etc could be stored inside the cap? Sorry if before I didn't express myself correctly.

RE: Capacity of ASME caps

Well, you won't find that in UG-44 :)

Don't know where this info might be available, but volume of half a semi-ellipse plus a short cylinder.

Regards,

Mike

RE: Capacity of ASME caps

? Semi-ellipse is a 2:1 ellipse ?
