Medium Voltage Auto Transfer Switch Control Replacement

(OP)
I first posted this in the motor and generator forum but thought I should have posted it here also.

I am on the hunt fot a replacment controller for an existing PLC based Westinghouse Auto Transfer. The existing scheme uses three 15kV WLI Switches as a Main - Tie - Main with a preferred and alternate untility feed. The two main ssitches are fused.

The Westinghouse PLC is obsolete with no service support and we would like to replace it with a new controller.

All thoughts and comments appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

RE: Medium Voltage Auto Transfer Switch Control Replacement

Any modern plc should be able to due the job. I suggest any of the A-B PLC would do, without any info about what is needed for your system. In 1990 I automated a 250MW two 138kv line substation with a tie ocb for a steel mill with 2-76mw arc furnaces + 7 rolling mills. Everything, including the tie ocb, all protective devices, load shedding, static VAR, revenue metering for the utility, controlling both arc furnaces and most of the melt shop, 2-34.5kv lines for the rest of the plant. I used an A-B PLC-5 with another PLC-5 as backup only. Another benefit was SCADA control online.
I do not know your needs are, but A-B is pricey but the best.
Hope this helps and good luck.
Dave

RE: Medium Voltage Auto Transfer Switch Control Replacement

Since your system is 15kV, I would recommend to use multifunction relays to do an autotransfer. I will be economical and reliable. You can study GE Multilin SR750 manual for that.
