GAS PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

GAS PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

GAS PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

(OP)
Dears,

can we use ASTM A 106 GR.B , for high pressure gas supplie,
Design Temperature = 85 degree celcius
Design Pressure = 237 bar
??

RE: GAS PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

For 1500lb piping, these conditions exceed what is possible with A106 Gr B - but if we move out to 1.25Cr, 0.5Mo or similar(high temp piping), yes
For 2500lb piping, yes, A106 Gr B is possible

RE: GAS PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

Yes, you can use A 106 Gr B. See ASME B31.3 or even B31.8.

RE: GAS PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

It can be used, but yield stress is low and wall thickness will be very high in relation to what is possible with the X60-X70 range. Economy will be poor, especially for long distances. If it is for extremely limited distances, you might get away with it. If diameters are large, lifts will be heavy and welding and PWHT will take a lot of time.

RE: GAS PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

A-106B is acceptable but costs would be reduced using a higher strength material. Population density will determine whether to use B31.3 or B31.8 as the design Code in terms of cost. Since almost all a-106 B is dual stamped as A-106 C why not use A-106 C in your thickness calculations?
