Automotive oil pump
Automotive oil pump
(OP)
This is about engine and transmission pumps for Automotive (gerotor, vane, gear pumps,...).
To design oil pump customer send 3d-model (environment) to supplier.
Now supplier have to design pump to "fit" into space, and also to size it for the flow and pressure.
I need to learn how looks like SOR (statement of requirement) which pump designer get from customer (Ford, GM, FCA, Volkswagen, ...). What technical data comes from them to hands of designer, beside flow and pressure difference between suction and discharge, the pump has to generate.
I understand this can vary, but what are typical data?

This will be at various engine speeds, ranging from low idle to over speed.
The supplier should also give details of how the pump will be run. For example, off a gear or a belt or a shaft. The technical spec will be accompanied by a set of CAD data that shows the packaging space.
In addition to the performance specifications, automotive suppliers will also send details of the their standards, any banned materials, reliability requirements, project team data, schematics. Actually, anything that is needed to provide a reliable pump assembly.
Modern product specifications can bee well over 100 pages.
