Multi-Piece Conventional jacket joint efficiency

Multi-Piece Conventional jacket joint efficiency

Multi-Piece Conventional jacket joint efficiency

(OP)
We have a decent size (120"OD x 240" W-W, 1.25" thk Shell) unit which is having a 3-piece jacket installed per Appendix 9 in 3 sections: Bottom head to 1 can, then 2 additional cans on the shell only. All 3 shell cans have 1 long seam in them. The head will be provided 100%RT with PDR. The bottom head to shell can will be welded with a full-penetration double sided weld, but the other seams between the sections will be single-fillet welded to an appx. 1" x 2" divider plate to separate the jacket into 3 sections. Spot RT per UW-52 is applied giving an 85% joint efficiency to the jacket.

My question is this: If we cannot shoot but 1 of the 4 circumferential seams due to geometry, and still get the spot RT on the long seams and UW-11(a)(5)(b) requirement, can we still use 85%? See link for jacket closure rings.

Thanks,
Doc
