Thinking of moving from Civil Engineer to CWI
Thinking of moving from Civil Engineer to CWI
(OP)
Hello everyone,
I am thinking about becoming a certfied welding inspector. I am currently a civil engineer that works for a state DOT and not making the kind of money I want. I have a friend that claims he is making 60 an hour working 7x12's. Anything over 40 is double time. I want to believe him, but is this common working contract shutdowns? I have 4 years of welding experience along with my Engineering degree. Any insight is appreciated.

You have much more potential as a civil engineer than as a CWI. I was a CWI for over 10 years.....could never charge engineering rates for welding inspection.
If your engineering job doesn't pay enough, find another! Nothing wrong with having CWI as Civil Engineer. Looks good on resume and would get you in door for numerous jobs.
