Best-Fit a Plane through a Curved Surface - NX7.5

(OP)
I want to create a plane which is best-fitted through a surface (which is nearly planar).
I found this thread quite useful, but I have NX7.5 (not NX8.5 for which the example was provided).
thread561-341626: DATUM PLANE BY A FEW POINTS ( MORE THAN THREE).
My modified method was to:-
  • Insert>Datum/Point>Point-set...>Face Points
  • Insert>Surface>From Point Cloud...
  • Select Points, and set U-degree and V-degree =1. This creates a planar sheet body, from which a plane can be created using
  • Insert>Datum Plane>...
Is this a good method? Is there any better way in NX7.5?

Cheers,
TechieGeek
