9310 steel alternatives.

9310 steel alternatives.

9310 steel alternatives.

(OP)
Hi All,
Does anyone know a steel with near equivalent properties to 9310.
9310 is not easily available in the UK so I am looking for a subtitute material.

Thanks
Jeff

RE: 9310 steel alternatives.

JazzyUK-

The cross-reference CoryPad provided lists a couple different grades of AMS spec 9310 bar on sheet 13. Depending upon your particular application it can make a difference in which grade would be appropriate. In the US aerospace standards there is AMS 6260 which is "aircraft quality" single vacuum melt 9310, and there is AMS 6265 which is "premium aircraft quality" double vacuum melt 9310 (VIM-VAR). For most applications AMS 6260 is probably adequate and will cost less than AMS 6265.

RE: 9310 steel alternatives.

My references show 9310 is an inactive reference, so I'm not surprised. For the UK, the equivalent steel you need will depend on the application:

Case hardening: BS EN 10084 14NiCrMo13-4 (1.6657)
Open die forgings: BS EN 10250-3 33NiCrMoV14-5 (1.6956)
Case hardening bearing steel: BS EN ISO 683-17 16NiCrMo16-5 (B32)

You will find other international equivalent specs for this alloy in the Worldwide Guide to Equivalent Steels and Irons.
