ETABS Shell Stresses_ Difference between top/bottom/maximum stress

ETABS Shell Stresses_ Difference between top/bottom/maximum stress

ETABS Shell Stresses_ Difference between top/bottom/maximum stress

(OP)
Hi,

When looking at wall stress plots for direct stress do you guys look at top/bottom stresses or maximum stresses for reinforcement design? Can anyone shed any light on their differences?

Thanks

RE: ETABS Shell Stresses_ Difference between top/bottom/maximum stress

Depends what you're designing.

Top/bottom stresses are due to out-of-plane moments. (Wall bending about weak axis)

Direct compression/tension stresses are due to in-plane effects. (wall bending about strong axis)

To design reo, you need to consider both simultaneously.
