ASME B31.3 Appendix V

(OP)
Hello All,
I was just wondering for the solved example V304 for ALLOWABLE VARIATIONS IN ELEVATED TEMPERATURE SERVICE as shown in ASME B31.3 Appendix V The longitudinal stress Sl calculations doesn't seem to add up. What I did was I calculated the min Wall thickness for the longitudinal stress calculation.
As ASTM A335 P22 material used is a 2-1/4 Cr and 1 Mo , I have used a Weld Joint reduction factor of 0.77 as per table 302.3.5 see note 1 but in the example code is using is 0.93, 0.91, and 0.91 for SL1, SL2, and SL3, respectively.
Any clues or help will be highly appreciated.
I am trying to calculate
SL1 = 3.0 ksi
SL2 = 3.0 ksi
SL3 = 3.7 ksi
Also I have not taking Bending stress into account as there is no Bending moment in play here due to no mention of pipe length.
Cheers
Qayam
