BOLT TORQUE VALUE

BOLT TORQUE VALUE

BOLT TORQUE VALUE

(OP)
Dear friends,

Recently, in a revamp project , the client asked me to provide him the bolt torque values. As per my understanding, bolt torque values or chart is project secific and client has to provide us the same for compliance ryt?
Or is there any code/standard where in i can check for the bolt torque values ?
What is the good engineering practise ?

Thanks in advance...

RE: BOLT TORQUE VALUE

I suggest you search for bolt torque on this site.

In general bolt torque is a method of determining bolt stress, but is dependant on variable issues such as lubrication and material or coatings on the studs and nuts.

It is however as good as it gets to demonstrate that the joint has been correctly tightened and usually how you tighten up a flanged connection, the pattern used and the number of torque steps is at least as important as the final value used.

IMHO it is therefore good practice to define these for your particular bolts and flange ratings.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Thank you little inch.

RE: BOLT TORQUE VALUE

Hi opinion1055
Specifying a bolt torque should be done in relation to the material you are clamping down, very often the bolt torque used is the maximum the bolt material can withstand, unfortunately the material under the bolt head which you are clamping very often yields because the bolt material can withstand more force.
So you should calculate the clamping force you require and ensure the number of bolts and the clamped material are adequate for the joint without over stressing it.

RE: BOLT TORQUE VALUE

It will depends on what gasket are you using.
