I would like some help regarding metal sheet specs for the design of a pressure vessel.
The specs are the following :
Steel EN10028-3
Tolerances acc. to EN 10029 class B
Surface condition EN10163-2 class B - subclass 3
Ultrasonic test EN10160 cat. S1,E1.

The steel plates will be used for the construction of 10m³ pressure vessel. The operating pressure of the vessel is 65 bar. The weight should not exceed 10 tn.
The pressure vessel will be designed,manufactured & inspected acc. to EN 13445.

First, I would like to know if it is essential for someone to know the above steel specs in order to manufacture the pressure vessel.
Another question that I have is what does it mean practically, EN 10029 class B & not class A for example. Is it essential for this application or is just oversizing ?

As for my understanding, EN10028-3 is specification for normalized steel. To carry out the design of the pressure vessel, the exact material code shall be given, so that the material allowable stress can be determined, e.g. for EN10028-3-P355N steel with thickness from 60 mm to 100 mm has minimum tensile strength of 470 MPa, and yield strength of 315 MPa at room temperature. When all information is gathered, only the required thickness for the pressure vessel can be properly selected, and so detailing can be prepared for final fabrication.

EN10029 specifies the manufacturing tolerance of the plate, in terms of dimension, shape, etc. For thickness between 40 mm and 80 mm, for example, nominal thickness tolerance is -1.0/+1.8 mm for class A, -0.3/+2.5 mm for class B, -0.0/+2.8 mm for class C, and +/- 1.4 mm (symmetrical) for class D. For class B, you may want to carry out thickness selection considering the -0.3 mm tolerance, in order to ensure proper safety margin for the pressure vessel shell thickness.

Therefore, in my opinion it is essential to understand the above code, before going for detailing of the pressure vessel design, only after that a correct vessel can be fabricated.
