We are looking for some design guides which would be helpful in estimating forces generated on a dock structure from wind, wave and boat impact forces.  To date I have found little helpful information on the Web.  Thanks

RE: dock design for wind, wave and impact forces

The best single source design guides I've seen and used are the NAVDOC's series from the US Navy. If you're looking at small craft harbour facilities, NAVDOC's may be a bit overkill. There also are numerous excellent texts on the subject including:

Design & Construction of Port & Marine Structures, by Alonzo DeF. Quinn, published by McGraw-Hill Book Company, or
Floating Ports; Design Construction Practices, by Gregory P. Tsinker, published by Gulf Publishing Company.

Thanks PM for the info.  I will try to locate one of these books.  My site is a small dock on a fairly large lake, with some exposure to high winds and waves.  I am still hoping to locate a reference or website which will allow me to ballpark estimate wind and wave forces without getting into a extremely complicated design analysis.

Another good reference is: "Design of Marine Facilities" by John W. Gaythwaite.

I realize you probably found your answer, but I have found "MARINAS and Small Craft Harbors" by Tobiasson & Kollmeyer to be a very useful resource. It gives examples of loading, dock design, etc.

I think it can be found at amazon.com
