I've been unable to find any resources on bolted tank design, other than to see that it can be done. Could anyone refer me to some type of design reference for bolted tank design for dry storage?

From what I can gather from the literature review, that certainly seems to the case. Standards only seem too be available for bolted liquid storage tanks. I think dry storage would be similar, although I shouldn't need the gaskets between joints.

Dry storage is or can be a much different animal. What is the material you are storing?

Copper ore, after it passes the secondary crushing circuit.

I believe your difficulty could be one of terminology. The term tanks generally refers to liquid storage containers. Perhaps you would find greater success by searching for bins, hoppers, or silos.

I've had less success with those terms actually. As bimr said, they are mostly design build by the supplier, but that isn't an option for me right now

Lots of books on bin design, yeah, but nothing seems to address the issue of designing the bolted connections.

For the bolted joints themselves, probably the AWWA or API standards would be the place to check. As pointed out above, that's something the manufacturers would usually deal with. For custom geometries, welded construction would usually be a little easier to work with.

In general, for welded and bolted silos, there aren't any codes or standards in the US. Allowable stresses will usually be based on the tank codes or AISC, structural allowables on AISC, design loads on ASCE 7, etc. There are some foreign standards, referenced in some of the books on the topic.

There are corrugated metal silos that do not have equivalents in the liquid storage field.
