Assigning a Section to an imported IGS file

(OP)
hey all,

I have a project im working on where ive 3D scanned part and modified in catia now transferred across to abaqus to perform firstly a nat. freq. job then an optimization job.

I cannot run the job successfully as it ask for a section to be assigned.

as the part is not symmetrical and quite complex, what do I do in this circumstance for the section assignment?

I have attached a pic of the part.

thank you in advance for any help!

RE: Assigning a Section to an imported IGS file

Is your part a solid or a shell?

If you haven't created a material and a section now is the time to in the properties module. Once you have a section which is either a solid or shell based on your geometry then you assign the section to the geometry. Basically you are telling Abaqus what material your part is made of. In the case of a shell you are also defining the thickness.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
