RE: Nepal - Drone video of damage

Thanks, JAE....nice link. Nice drone video....too bad the subject has to be tragic.

Wish my drone videos would come out that well. Mine are not so smooth.

You have a drone? Really? Love to see how you use it.
Maybe I'll drive over to your place sometime! smile

RE: Nepal - Drone video of damage

Does it have to be licensed, Ron?

Are you moving about from your drone seat while you capture video? Maybe just sitting still would help keep the vibrations down winky smile

RE: Nepal - Drone video of damage

I have a DJI Phantom 2+. I use it for taking aerial shots of multi-building projects and for a close initial look at elevated exterior features and roofs. It helps to plan the next stage of investigations or evaluations. The lens angle is fairly wide so shots from far away look a little distorted. I'm trying to get modified for more normal view.

JAE...in fact the last project I used it on is about 300 yards from where you and I were drinking beer last year! Problem there is the wind!

Mike...my understanding is that if I keep it below 400 feet, no licensing is required. I anticipate more FAA restrictions to start coming out soon, since they are getting fairly popular.

RE: Nepal - Drone video of damage

Does it have an altimeter on your controls?

Mike McCann, PE, SE (WA)

RE: Nepal - Drone video of damage

Mike....yes, it does.
