CAT generator Exhaust Stack Requirement

CAT generator Exhaust Stack Requirement

CAT generator Exhaust Stack Requirement

(OP)
Hi,

I'm going to install a exhaust stack for a CAT generator set. Followings are the model data,

Gen Model- SR 4B , 1000 kva, 800 kW, 400 V, Diesel Engine
Exhaust gas flow rate – (25-30)Nm3/min
Exhaust system back pressure – 6.7 kpa

At the moment it has a 12" dia exhaust with a muffler. But the muffler is not enough to reduce noise and existing exhaust end should be changed as our requirements. Because I'm going to extend the exhaust stack and join a secondary muffler.

1.) For new stack extension 1 nos-90 and 1 nos-60 bends will be added. To reduce the back pressure effect is it ok to use 14 inch dia for new stack?

2.) I have decided to use stainless steel material. Can any one tell me the require thickness for 14" exhaust stack?

Thanks

RE: CAT generator Exhaust Stack Requirement

You will have to design your own stack not to exceed 6.7kpa pressure. Note that exhaust is a different than air.
