TOLERANCES IN SLIP CRITCAL CONNECTIOSN

let us assume that we have a slip critical connection with 2mm gap between the 2 elements, do i have to provide a shim plate for this connection to fill the 2 mm gap or will the tightening process be enough to take care of this small gap??

RE: TOLERANCES IN SLIP CRITCAL CONNECTIOSN

In most cases I'd say that the tightening process can be relied upon to close the gap. It really depends on your situation though. Whatever permanent force is required to bring the materials into contact is clamping force that will not contribute to slip critical resistance.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
