(OP)
I am designing a plastic cover with a latch and plastic hinge. Is there any online documentation or share ware describing design concepts for snap fits and plastic hinges?

RE: plastic latch

meh70us,

This topic, at least in part, was covered in prior threads. Try the thread Thread288-34812: Plastic snap fits on cylindrical components. Try also searching on Google.com.

Best regards,

Matthew Ian Loew

RE: plastic latch

If you get the CD ROM from Bayer Plastics, it contains a lot of very comprehensive design documents in PDF format, one of which covers the design of latches in plastic.

RE: plastic latch

I designed a similar part a couple years ago.  Polypropylene is your best material for a living hinge, although I have heard of people using polyethylene and nylon.

Try GE plastics.  You will need to register and get a password.

Here is their design guide for living hinges

And here is thei guide for snap fits.

Like Biggadike said, Bayer Plastics has some good info on Snap fits:

Dow has some info on living hinges here:

Efunda has some good stuff too:
