Units? Energy absorbed per area over an entire day?
Units? Energy absorbed per area over an entire day?
(OP)
Should be a simple problem, but maybe I'm over-thinking it.
Working on a reply to a group over on a different website about the relative amounts of solar energy absorbed and reflected from the ocean at different days of the year..
I've got good parameters for the water albedo over the range of solar elevation angles for each our of the day, at each latitude of interest, for each day of the year. Good values for atmosphere attenuation at each solar elevation angle as well.
Fine.
That gives me watts/m^2 absorbed each hour, on the hour.
Over a 24-hour day, I can add the 24 values (because that mimics an integral function).
I mul;tiply by the area (it changes each day, assume 1.2 million sq kilometers as an example.)
So I get ?? "Megawatt-hours/per day absorbed?" That would come from Watts/m^2 for the 24 hours I've added up x 1.2 x10^6 sq meters / 10^6 ?
What am I missing?

RE: Units? Energy absorbed per area over an entire day?
1.0 km2 = (1000)^2 m2 = 1e6 m2
So, 1.2e6km2 = 1.2e6 x 1e6 = 1.2e12 m2
So there is a 1e6 multiplier missing in the final answer ?
