We have received SA 106 Gr B material with its certificate. However, as manufacturer, we want to use the same material as SA 106 Gr C for an ASME Section I job, provided all specification requirements as per SA 106 Gr C are fulfilled, as demanded by PG 10. Is there a code interpretation that allows the same?

RE: ASME Section I, PG 10.

So what you are really asking for is dual certification specification. This can be done by the supplier, and not under PG-10. PG-10 really deals with unidentified material which could have been produced under a permitted specification, and material supplied under a specification not permitted by Section I.

Both SA 106 Grades are permitted under Section I and both are permitted.

RE: ASME Section I, PG 10.

C t.s. is higher than B. C can substitute B but not the other. Metenger, supplier cannot change specs, Am I wrong.

RE: ASME Section I, PG 10.

The pressure vessel manufacturer or the supplier of the material may re-certify it per PG-10 if the material meets all the requirements of the specification. See ASME Code interpretations 1-92-6 and 1-92-49.

@GenB
The tensile properties between Grades B and C allow for some overlap based on minimums, and a difference of only 10,000 psi. I think dual certification is possible.
