Why there is no grading for ASTM A105?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Why there is no grading for ASTM A105?

Because if you review the material specification, you will see a wide range of carbon content is necessary for small and large carbon steel forgings and in applications from ambient to elevated temperature service.

Thanks metengr for your reply. If i got you, it is type of manufacturing (forging) that prevents it from grading (as it is in, say, A106). Am I right?

RE: Why there is no grading for ASTM A105?

Yes, that is part of it but also mechanical properties, and end use of the product form.

If forging is part of it, why ASTM A694 (Standard Specification for Carbon and Alloy Steel Forgings for Pipe Flanges, Fittings, Valves, and Parts for High-Pressure Transmission Service)has nine grades (F42 F46 F48 F50 F52 F56 F60 F65 F70)?

RE: Why there is no grading for ASTM A105?

These grades were provided to match API 5L-X42, X52, X60, etc pipe for gas/oil transmission systems.
A-105 was primarily created for A-106, A53 pipe systems.
