door dent FEA.....
door dent FEA.....
(OP)
Hello,
I am trying to simulate the denting of a car door using the LS-Dyna solver and the implicit method or the explicit method. This denting is a low load small displacement type of event (quasi-static). This is to find the weakest spot on a door outer panel. Any references which specify the process would be greatly appreciated. Also, any individual advice would be very helpful too.

RE: door dent FEA.....
To determine the weakest spot on a door panel I would employ optimization techniques. Allow the optimization to modify the indenter location to maximize or minimise the objective function. Your opbjective function could be: minimize load for onset of placiticty, maximize placicity with a given load, maximize residual deformation after load is removed.
What optimization strategy you should choose will be highly dependent on how continuous your design space is.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
