Lifting Lug Alternative for Flare Stack

Lifting Lug Alternative for Flare Stack

Lifting Lug Alternative for Flare Stack

(OP)

Hello

Existing Flare stack (187 ft) is required to be taken down from vertical position to horizontal position for repair. Original drawings for this stack indicate that the original lugs are only for erection purpose and shall not be used after erection.

One option recommended to me is to perform full NDE on these lugs and check the applicability of reusing them. If not, I would like to know what an alternative is. Note that additional lugs cannot be weld before taking the stack down.

As I am unfamiliar to alternate lifting methods, any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

RE: Lifting Lug Alternative for Flare Stack

wailunwu,
I recommend you contact the original manufacturer of the Flare Stack and get a clarification on the use of the Lugs.

I think they may have meant to say, the luge are limited to lifting up or down.
You cannot use them for Platform Supports, Ladder Supports, Pipe Supports, etc.

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

RE: Lifting Lug Alternative for Flare Stack

They may mean the lugs are adequate in the as-built condition, but not in the corroded condition.
