Contact stress

(OP)

I am working on a locking solution like vacuum cleaner cylindrical tube like this

Link

I have to find the contact stress between aluminum body and thermoplastic body.

I will use the Hertzian contact stress formula, however my force are not axial to surface, it is perpendicular.

Can you help me about that?

RE: Contact stress

I would start with the displacement caused by the interference fit of the two pieces. Vacuum parts are usually one steel and one plastic so that all the deformation is in one part. With deformation you can calculate the stress and strains.
