Component interface
Component interface
(OP)
Does anyone know how to apply component interfaces to a part for use for quick assembling? ie. On a bolt specifying the axis (or cylindrical surface) of the bolt for allignment(or insert) and the undersind of the head for a mate?
Thanks in advance

RE: Component interface
If I understand you correctly, you want to access the component interface command?
1) Config.pro option(hidden); enable_component_interfaces (yes)
2) Part mode; SET UP/COMP INTERFACE
3) Select the type of assembly constraints you want to have come up automatically with that part, face, axis etc.
You can have more than one "set" of assembly constraints for a single part.
Hope this helps

Exactly what I was after!
Thats fantastic.....why do they hide it!?! It means you don't have to have a sperate window for assembling small parts (ie a bolt) into big assemblies. Very cool.

RE: Component interface
This is a great tip, thanks to Hayden for asking the question, I never even thought of this option could have existed.

RE: Component interface
component > adv utils > repeat
this brings up a window that allows you to select one, two or all of the assembly constraints to use for a repeated assembly of the component. anyway, its fast.
RE: Component interface
I find with repeat sometimes I loose track of which constraints are which (the order you pick your new references). I just wish also, that repeat was a right mouse button option.

RE: Component interface
You are absolutely right. For assembling a number of instances of the same component, using the repeat function or ref patterns is the way to go. If you are assembling a number of different parts, the comp interface does allow you to shave off a few seconds here and there.
Do you know any other advanced assembly tips?-every bit of info helps.
cheers,
