Add-in file failure

Add-in file failure

Add-in file failure

(OP)
When launching the MoldWizard in NX8.5 I get a message box "Failed to find add-in of current application. Copy the file into Excel XLStart directory"
What the heck does this mean?
Thanks

RE: Add-in file failure

Was this working for you previously?
Have there been any recent upgrades/patches to either NX or Excel? What version of Excel are you using?

RE: Add-in file failure

(OP)
This was a fresh install of 8.5 with no MR or MP and MS Excel 2013

RE: Add-in file failure

Excel 2013 is not certified for use with NX 8.5. To see the spreadsheet compatibility status, go to...

Help -> Release Notes -> NX 8.5 System Information -> NX compatibility with Spreadsheet

...where you will find that the newest version of Excel supported for use with NX 8.5 is Excel 2010. Excel 2013 is technically not supported until NX 10.0.

That is strange because Excel 2013 comes up when I go to edit a parts family.
I didn't get the message before I had the fresh install.

RE: Add-in file failure

Some things may work and some may not. My understanding is that Excel 2013 was not a simply recertification, but required some new coding on our part as Microsoft has made some extensive changes to the toolkit level UI.

RE: Add-in file failure

I had an IR on NX/Excel 2013 and learnt that Microsoft have re-architectured Excel 2013, and that older versions of NX ( pre NX10 ) will have some issues will have some issues.
Partfamilies does work but editing drafting tables does not etc.
Office 2010 is OK.

RE: Add-in file failure

So if I get Excel 2010 installed, what file and where do I put it?

RE: Add-in file failure

Bbylls,

IF the file reference is related to NX it can using Excel "File, Options, Add-Ins"

If there is an entry in the list of add-ins labled "UG", highlight the row and look at the details to see installation location looks correct (or is it for an NX version other than NX 8.5?)
Then set the "Manage:" option menu to "Excel Add-Ins and press the "Go..." button,
uncheck the box for UG, "OK".
Then restart NX.

Still no answer as to what file and where it goes for the Mold Wizard if I install Excel 2010.
Thanks Joe but nothing changed.

RE: Add-in file failure

Brad,

NX needs to be able to locate the moldwizard_add_in.xla Excel file and uses the environment variable MOLDWIZARD_DIR to do so. Please Check to see that MOLDWIZARD_DIR is defined and that the location specified by the variable contains a "templates\moldwizard_add_in.xla" file. (The xla file is available in the NX installation (prior to downloading the MW engineering data) in the %UGII_BASE_DIR%\moldwizard\electrode\templates directory.)

Hopefully connecting the .XLA file via the MOLDWIZARD_DIR variable is all that is needed.

HTH,

Joe
