Having issue to update broken view after taking section from it.

Having issue to update broken view after taking section from it.

Having issue to update broken view after taking section from it.

(OP)
Hello,

I am facing some issue in UG NX9.0 to update broken view after taking section view from it. For Ex. If we have a long tube. We placed tube view in drafting environment and created tube broken view. From this broken view we will take a section view. If our tube will changed and we have to change the broken view of tube then it is not possible directly. For changing the broken view first we have to delete section view, which we had from broken view and after that we can change the broken view. For more clarification please find attached ppt. If any one having the solution to change the broken view without deleting section then please suggest me.

Thanks,
Rahul Shinde

What exactly is it that you can't do when you've created a Section View from a Broken View?

Hello John,
Thank you for replying me.
After creating the section view from broken view. If our tube will updated and I want to change that broken view boundary, then it is not possible to change broken view boundary directly. For changing boundary we have to delete that section first which we have taken from broken view and then we can change the boundary of broken view. For more clarification please find attached movie file.

You say you're running NX 9.0 but the video looks like a much older version of NX. And your broken view dialog looks like it's from NX 7.5 or older version of NX. Starting with NX 8.0 we replaced Broken Views with a totally new function that does not require you to manually construct view boundaries and which does not require any special editing if you wish to change their extents.

I don't know how you created that 'Broken' view but it was NOT using the new 'Add View Break' function that was added starting with NX 8.0. From the best that I could tell the view boundary and view break symbol was created either manually or it had to have been done using the pre-NX 8.0 'Broken-View' function, but since the Part History shows that this Drawing file was originally created using NX 8.0 I don't know how you accomplished that.

Why are you using the legacy 'Broken View' function? I can't fathom anyone preferring it over the replacement functionality introduced in NX 8.0.

RE: Having issue to update broken view after taking section from it.

It is not possible to make a section view from broken view directly (since new broken view function in NX8). If you will try, line of your section view will disappear. Don't understand the logic of this, but it is as it is. In some cases such broken view "functionality" leaves you without any solution, if you have long part which needs to be sectioned.

RE: Having issue to update broken view after taking section from it.

John,

Remember that with the new "Broken View" function, if you're not careful with dimensions/centrelines that they will be hidden when the view updates.

RE: Having issue to update broken view after taking section from it.

It's a known issue that there are 'problems' with the behavior of center-lines and sections lines when creating and updating Broken Views (and the user is informed of that situation with a message that comes up that must be acknowledged before they can continue). Besides, there is some debate as to whether there is even true support within the standards when it comes to creating section views from a broken view.

If you feel strongly about any of these issues, please contact GTAC and make your feeling known to them.

RE: Having issue to update broken view after taking section from it.

Yes John, I know about these issues, but....
We are in railway business. Rails have one big disadvantage: they are too long (~25 meters) compared to their height (~180 milimeters). There are lots of drillings, machined pockets, various machined areas of different sizes.
So we need both broken and section views. You can now easily make broken view of your part, but we also need sections of that view. The only workaround is to have additional sheet on your drawing, place there view which is sectioned, and sections are pasted to your base view. Also you have manually draw section lines to your broken view (this is most irritative part of your work).
This is just for information :)

Dear All,

Do you have any updates on this???
