High strength bolt installation question

High strength bolt installation question

High strength bolt installation question

(OP)
A new building is going up. I'm looking at the bolting of the structure. They are A325TC bolts and A490.

When they install them, are they required to have the nut identification markings on the outside of the connection?

Is that in the ASTM book? I'm looking now and haven't run across it yet. Any guidance would greatly be appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

RE: High strength bolt installation question

Look at the RCSC specification. It's a free download from www.boltcouncil.org. This document covers installation methods and requirements. I do not believe there is any requirement regarding orientation of the nut to read the markings.

RE: High strength bolt installation question

Bolt Head should be marked with Makers mark, ID (AA325TC or A490TC) and Nut/Washer marked as well. Connection requirements should be noted on erection plans. also check notes and local regs for inspection requirements -Observation, Skidmore qualification of bolts and bolting gun(s, etc. Minimal requirements for inspector are ICC S-1.
