Hi guys,

I have a heavy duty double acting hydraulic cylinder operating at 230 l/min max flow rate and need to select a suitable hose burst valve for its ports. I cannot find a valve with such high flow capacity and suppose I should look for another solution. Has anybody encountered such design problem before?

Yes, but we just told the vendor to reduce the pressure drop.

Do you need a hose burst valve or can you live with an over centre valve?

Also, where you reference capacity, although the valves may not state the flow you require, they may still work, but with a higher delta P.

Do you know what max pressure drop you can accept through the valve?

I need a valve to protect the load from uncontrolled descent in case of hose break. It doesn't need to be exactly hose burst valve. My limit for the pressure drop across the valve is 10 bar. My manager asks me to search for some kind of cartridge valve with higher flow capacity and pilot controlled.

Your manager is asking you to look for things that don't exist.Hose burst check valves are not cartridge type valves, they are supplied as in line valves with ports on them.

You can use an over centre valve to do what you want, see attached PDF. An over centre valve is counter balance valve with a pilot port to open the valve.

10 BAR pressure drop @ 250 LPM is a big ask and will drive you towards a big valve.

The valve needs to be located at the cylinder ports.

We cannot use counterbalance valve because the main DCV is closed centre and it has to be such because of specific requirements of the application. Is there another option?

The closed centre DCV will not affect these valves as they have internal drains to allow them to close. These are the valves you need.
