midsurfaces do not intersect?

midsurfaces do not intersect?

midsurfaces do not intersect?

(OP)
So I imported an STP file in FEMAP, deleted unnecessary solids and then extracted mid surfaces. however, the resulting midsurfaces do not intersect. I tried using the midsurface>intersect command but to no avail. I am curious if

1) it's due to improperly defined "target thickness"
2) original geometry in STP is also not intersecting
3) geometry cleanup (e.g. extending the curves to surfaces, deleting/adding surfaces) is the only option to fix this.

Thanks

RE: midsurfaces do not intersect?

Hello!,
To make sure the FEMAP extend and intersect midsurfaces check that you have ONE solid, if you have two "T" type solids walls touching, then FEMAP do not know that extension and intersection is required. Use command "Geometry > Solid > Add" to create new solids by boolean operations. Or upload your STEP geometry here (the small one that give problems) to check what is happening.

Here you are some videos explaining the POWERFUL new midsurface extraction + meshing capabilities of FEMAP V11.2, impressing!!

Also the new command "Modify, Update Elements, Midsurface Thickness and Offset" will update the element thickness and apply appropriate offsets for elements to better match the original solid used to create the midsurface(s), supporting variable thickness:

hello Blas,
thanks a lot for your reply.

could you please explain more on geometry>solid>add command? like what will it exactly do? when it is used and when not to use? if I select all solids and click OK, will it dubplicate all solids?
