Joint Release and Member Release

(OP)
Hi All,

I have been studying about joint and member releases and I am not quite sure what these terms mean and what they do.

01) What is the difference between joint release and member release? From what I read, both of them appear to be acting on a node.

02) How to apply joint release and member release in ANSYS APDL? I looked into ENDRELEASE command, but it doesn’t seem to work properly. Does it work in global coordinates/ local coordinates? The ANSYS manual on this topic is not clear to me. Does decoupling concept work in this case?

03) For the member release, how can I release, for example, only the positive force in x direction (instead of total force in x direction)?

Any help on the above questions and these concepts in general would be helpful.

Thanks.
Nagabrahmam Mantha
