pnumatis cylinders, what tank size?
pnumatis cylinders, what tank size?
(OP)
Ok here's what I have. I need to know what size tank I need for 5 10" bore by 14" stroke cylinders. I have most of the calculation by can't figure out tank size, I'm stuck. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

RE: pnumatis cylinders, what tank size?
It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.
RE: pnumatis cylinders, what tank size?
You will need to know, or assume at elast the details below.
Pressure of the air in the cylinders
Max pressure from the air supply
Minimum pressure required for the cylinders
Maximum flow rate out or number of operations per minute, per cycle, whatever
Max flow rate in from air supply
Is the tank at max pressure before you start?
Then work out volume air in tank at start minus volume out, plus volume in and then calculate pressure left. If this is > min pressure required OK, if not make bigger, if > make smaller.
Allow some margin(20%?).
Some of the data above would help.

RE: pnumatis cylinders, what tank size?
we're also asking for a 15% rise
max pressure in each cylinder is 150psi
our min could be 20, 25 or what ever
cylinders could a max 40spm
are cylinders will be exhausted to outside air
The person who did this for me did it all from amount of cylinders stroke and cubic inches, I assume. and used this 6:1 ratio

RE: pnumatis cylinders, what tank size?
I'll asked you to size a surge tank for my job.
here's the info I'll give you, same as what I gave to other people
I have 5 10" bore x 14" stroke cylinders. each cylinder can have a max pressure of 150psi, tank must handle max.
shop air going in to surge tank will be around 80psi
we also want a 15% rise
pressure in each cylinder could run as low as 10psi
pressure in each cylinder could run at max of 150psi
These cylinders are for a bumper system in metal stamping. depending on job, cylinder will have different pressure per job
Hopefully this helps

If 40 spm is strokes per minute and it is a lot of minutes and all 5 cylinders then your tank size is virtually irrelevant as your incoming air supply will need to equal your usage. It's only when you have a large air load required intermittently that you need a tank which can use a small air supply to smooth out flow in and out.
Until you describe the planned operation better in terms of air usage and air supply we will struggle to size this tank.
