Hello,

Question 1: Can someone help me to understand why and what size of reliable power generation in parallel to solar plant is needed for operating in isolated grid area (where there is no existing grid)? I was told that the DC to AC converters require reliable operating reference voltage and frequency to generate the electricity from the solar farm. If this is the case, a 10MW solar plant requires how much of reliable source of power. example 500kW diesel generation or 1MW diesel generation? how to size this generation unit??

Question 2: How to provide the KVAR support from the inverters in the solar plant to the loads in a completely isolated system? can i add bunch of capacitor banks to match the reactive loads in different locations??

Some, not all, inverters require an external frequency reference with which to operate. For the ones that don't, its possible to connect up the load and subject to loading and solar output, off you go, assuming the unit is configured to be able to follow the load.
For the ones that do, its important to ensure that the output of the inverter never exceeds the connected load (plus an allowance for the generator minimum load).

For a 10MW solar farm, one would hope that the inverter also has a reactive power capability so as to be able to support the connected load's reactive power requirement.

Obviously I've neglected what happens when the solar disappears quickly and associated problems.

Generation should be enough to handle all loads that may be connected when the sunshine stops.
